I Found a Strange Rock-Hard Object in an Airplane’s Cargo Pit – Does Anyone Know What It Is?

 

It looked like a rock.

At least, that was the first thought.

The object was small enough to hold in one hand, but it appeared surprisingly solid and heavy for its size. Its surface was rough and irregular, almost as though dozens of tiny lumps had been pressed together and then baked hard.

There was nothing about it that immediately suggested “aircraft part.”
