On a wet May night near Grão Mogol, a passenger van carrying 17 workers and an empty heavy truck met head-on in a violent collision that threw both vehicles off BR-251. Nine people in the van, including a child, died at the scene. Others were pulled out alive by firefighters using hydraulic tools in the dark, under rain, on unstable ground that turned every step into a risk. While survivors were rushed to hospitals in Montes Claros and Francisco Sá, the highway remained closed for hours as police and forensic teams tried to read the story written in tire marks, shattered glass, and torn metal.
